Discover the latest Makeup Trends for 2012. Hint: We’re going deep… red that is.
Fall and winter are my favorite times of year when it comes to makeup and fashion. Just because the temperatures are dipping, doesn’t mean you can’t warm things up with a hot look. This year I noticed that some of the traditional makeup trends are traditional no more!
When you think of the holiday season, you think bright, bold red, especially on the lips. This year, there’s a new color in town: black cherry. The latest shade is a red so deep that it looks black. While the hue maintains its red roots, it has a dark, mysterious, romantic twist. It seems that the Twilight crew started a new trend for the season.
If you’re craving this vampy shade, try MAC Hang Up or Dolce & Gabbana The Lipstick in Ultra. Celebrities like Camilla Belle and Kate Bosworth are already smitten with the reinvented red pout. Make sure to apply the lipstick from the tube to get the most out of the color. Brush on a little bronzer as well to avoid looking washed out.
We can’t forget about the eyes! The black dramatic look has taken a backseat to the new, softer smoky eye. Sweep rich chocolate browns, taupes, and shimmery shades of gold lightly over the eyelids for a subtle, but still sultry look. The final product is warm with a hint of sparkle. Try Stila Bare shadow as a base and add some drama with rich, warm shades like Urban Decay’s Buck and NARS Étrusque. You’ll be seeing a lot of this look during the holidays. Be prepared to get swept away!
Not into to the smoky eye? Want to avoid blending? Try the graphic black cat eyes trend. What is it? Exactly what it sounds like. Apply thick black eyeliner and wing it out on the ends. It’s a showstopper for any occasion. Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner is a winner when it comes to cat eyes.
Don’t forget about your skin. Glow like a snow angel. This trend is one that never gets old. However, this year I’m noticing a lot of gold accents…under the brow, across the cheeks, and even dusted across the neckline. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Cheek Glow in gold will give you that ethereal sparkle. For even more luminous skin, try Face Stockholm Glitter Stick in Sensation. This trend is soft, feminine, and serves as the cherry on top of any beauty regimen. Stars like Jennifer Lawrence and Drew Barrymore have added some dimension to their skin with pops of gold.
